Analysis of 'The Killer' re-make

Overall, I think for being first time film-makers, our re-make was pretty good. Of course there were some problems along the way but mostly we did an ok job.

Since the opening in The Killers was set in a sort of out door cafe, we decided to film in the college's canteen area. We tried to get the exact positioning of the characters in this scene correct and I think we did this well. At the time we were filming it was very dark outside, so filming this scene outdoors would have ruined the original scene so we chose to do it indoors. I think lighting was our weakest area. Lighting in the original scene was very bright as it was probably a sunny day, but because we were filming in the college's canteen, the only lighting we had were the college's lights. It was darker than we wanted but we worked with it.

There was some background music in the original but, as we didn't have time to add that feature on whilst we were editing, we didn't have any non-digetic sound in our final scene.

The main shots in this scene were close ups and over the shoulder shots. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be, to get these shots right. I thought it was going to be hard because of the height difference between the two people in this scene but we managed to work it out.

There weren't many cuts in this scene but cross dissolving was used a lot. We figured out how to use cross dissolves and used them as accurately as possible to match the original. At the beginning of our editing period, we were not really comfortable with editing but in the end we felt more comfortable with it.

The only problem we had whilst filming was continuity. Any other sort of filming we do in the future we now know to work harder on continuity than any other area.
