Anna's 'The Killers Remake' Analysis

Personally i thought our remake of the Killers 2010 clip was not too bad. I found there was many similarities but more differences between the two.

When filming, we completely forgot to think about the micro elements to produce a good standard remake of 'The Killers'. For example lighting was a big issue. In the original clip the lightening was bright and they used many yellow coloured props such as the flowers, clothing and buildings to brighten up the scene. Which contrasted against the scene with the vilan. However we didn’t consider this when we filmed our clips. We chose to set this in the college canteen as the original was set in a cafe. The canteen allowed us to use the resources around and was spacious enough for different camera work. Due it being filmed around 4-5pm it was dark outside, relying on the dim lights in the canteen. However if we got to remake this clip again, we would consider shooting it in the early afternoon or edit the clip brighter.

Sound was another problem in our remake. There was no dialog used in our remake and therefore is unclear for the audience to know what is happening. Next time we would consider adding small dialog or clearer actions for each character to establish what is happening and their role. Non-diegetic sounds were also used in the original version but even though we played ‘Viva La Vida instrumental” in the background when presenting it to the class, we were not able to add it onto our remake. Also in the original the music changes to fit the new mood, whereas our song choice portrayed a light atmosphere.

Continuity was the biggest problem in the final remake. We realized we did not have enough people to be the extras in the scene so we used each other. However we did not realize that in the final clip it would look like the characters are just switching from one scene to another. For example Ali and Mohammed are seen twice walking into the scene at 0:16 and in the next scene at 0:20. I thought continuity was the biggest problem with the clip as it made the clip too confusing for the audience. Next time we would have to consider either finding other extras or to wear different clothing to disguise the characters.

However, i did think we did some stuff correctly. For example i thought we considered and presented 'the rules of third' well within the clips. I also thought the camera was angled correctly and that the editing was done well as we included the cross dissolving when needed.
As a group i thought we did well but we would still have to consider all the micro elements when filming our own thriller. Also hopefully next time we would hopefully be able to shoot the whole clip rather then only half.
