Intertextuality

In today's lesson we learnt about Intertextuality. Intertextuality is when one media texte takes   reference to any other media text. Intertextuality is used to ingage the audience more, so that they will recognise a particular scene from another media text.
For example, the film The Stepfather it borrows many aspects from the film Psycho.
The closing of the bathroom door appears in Psycho

Body dying in the bathtub appears in Psycho

Shots of the shower curtains falling or breaking also appears in Psycho
All these borrowed aspects help to give this film the ultimate chill factor to make it a good thriller. It has successfully taken scenes/shots from the original Psycho thriller film, which is renowned for establishing specific conventions that we now expect from a good thriller film. it is a truly influential thriller film.
